Bust right, with scepter and globe.

Reverse: COLLMNAS HERCVLIS EXCESSIT MAGNA VIRTVTE / PLVS VLTRA.

The columns of Hercules in the sea, between them facing eagles with spread wings, above crown.

GOLD. Extremely rare cast medal.
Extremely fine with charming gold toning 10.000.-

Provenance: Ex Collection Sacha Guitry, Auction Emile Bourgey, Paris 7 mai 1963, lot n°59 (4'600 Fr.).

construction and restoration of the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris.

From the Sacha Guitry Collection

This beautiful medal was once part of the prestigious
collection of the well known French actor and director
Sacha Guitry, 1885-1957. It was sold at an Emile Bour-
gey Auction in Paris, at the Palais Galliera, in May 1963
among other exceptional gold pieces like a 10 Louis d’or
of Louis XIII, a 50 Ducats piece of Ferdinand III and a
50 Ducats piece of Sigismund III Wasa.

tion catalogue to describe this unique collection:

Cette fastueuse Collection fut l'œuvre, il y a quelques
trente ans, d'un Amateur qui, entre autres talents
célèbres, eut celui d'être un collectionneur averti et
passionné, guidé dans ses acquisitions par le seul
souci de la beauté et de la rareté. « … » L'ensemble
de ces monnaies et médailles en or nous restitue au-
jourd'hui l'ampleur de ses connaissances, la sagacité
de son goût et l'extraordinaire intelligence de cet esp-
rit immortel et unanimement apprécié.
