                                                            3

3 Ibrâhîm II, 261-289 AH (874-902 AD). Dinar 273 or 276 AH, no mint (Qayrawân? or an imitative mint).
                  4,14 g. Cf. al-'Ush 119. GOLD. Very rare. Almost extremely fine 350.-

Very crude style, but generally readable with a few orthographic problems, e.g. in the first line of the creed,
thus probably a contemporary imitation made by a die engraver without knowledge of Arabic (Southern
Italy? Amalfi?) but with the capacity to reproduce the number of dots to form the writing precisely.

                  CRUSADER IMITATIONS OF FATIMID DINARS

                                         4

4 County of Tripoli. Dinar or bezant year 2. 4,06 g. Imitating a dinar of the Fatimid caliph al-Mustansir
                  billâh. Balog/Yvon 2; Metcalf 484. GOLD. Extremely fine 400.-

The Arabic legends on this coin are generally crude but legible. On the obverse die the word Allah was repla-
ced three times by the word alah (one lâm only). Tarâblus is indicated as the mint, but the date is shortened
to ithnâ for the final digit 2.
